Latino Immigration Policy Conference

This one-day conference brought together specialists on labor history, immigration history, immigration policy, and immigrant rights to explore the history, context, issues, and policy alternatives concerning Latino immigrants to the United States and more specifically the state of New York.

Over 150 academics, students, agency, legislative, and community organization staff, and interested individuals gathered at the Assembly Hall of the Campus Center at the University at Albany to listen to and to discuss six presentations focusing on the historical, political, and policy dimensions of Latino immigration in New York State.

Speakers included:
José E. Cruz, NYLARNet Director and Associate Professor of Political Science; Susan Gauss, Assistant Professor of History at the University at Albany; Manuel García y Griego, Professor of History and Director of the Southwest Hispanic Research Center at the University of New Mexico; Immanuel Ness, Professor of Political Science and Director of the Graduate Center for Worker Education at Brooklyn College; Ron Hayduk, Associate Professor of Political Science, Borough of Manhattan Community College; Maud Easter, Center for Women in Government at the University at Albany; Amy Sugimori, National Employment Law Project.

Papers presented at the New York Latino Research and Resources Network Conference on Latino Immigration Policy were published into a book entitled Latino Immigration Policy: Context, Issues, Alternatives. For a copy of the book, please email request to nylarnet@albany.edu
